This website is dedicated to our sister and beloved daughter, Samantha (Davis) Schafer. In the month of October, 2012 Samantha was diagnosed with Grade 3, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, or Triple Negative Breast cancer. Since her diagnosis, she has had a double mastectomy and has begun chemotherapy. After her third treatment of chemotherapy, Samantha was admitted to the hospital due to complications with a separate health issue, Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract. As doctors fought to get her Crohn’s under control, Samantha developed two blood clots, one in her left arm and another that went from her neck down her right arm. She was given heavy doses of blood thinners that would finally lead to a procedure where doctors attempted to widen the blocked artery with a medical balloon. After having the procedure done for a second time, Samantha lost large amounts of blood and was placed on bed rest in St. Lukes Intensive Care Unit for several days while she was given blood transfusions. Because of these complications, Samantha was three weeks over due for her chemotherapy treatments. St. Lukes doctors then decided to have Samantha transferred to Upstate Medical for further treatments and hopes that she can begin her chemotherapy treatments.
Currently, Samantha has several more months of chemotherapy, followed by five weeks of radiation. Her husband, Jim, has been at her side taking unpaid weeks off from his job as Manager at a local Pizza Hut restaurant.
To help defray growing medical costs for Samantha and Jim, family, friends and loved ones will be holding a benefit on June 1, 2013 at the Deerfield Fire House on Trenton Rd in Deerfield from 1pm till 6pm. If you would like to offer a monetary gift to Samantha and Jim, you may click on the button below. All donations, big and small, are greatly appreciated, as we would be honored for your contribution.
Thank you in advance for any and all considerations,
The Family of Samantha Schafer
